| A
typical day out at Amazon World Zoo Park.
In the afternoon:
We're
all full to bursting now after lunch in the 'Adventurer's Café
and the kids are wanting to get on with their exploring so I think I'll
leave the gift shops until after we've seen the rest of the animals.
We've backtracked to where we left off and emerge outside into the sunshine;
there are just so many different types of animals! The Ocelot looks just
like a baby Jaguar and the Penguins are playing and splashing around in
their pool.
Sophie likes the sunbathing Lemurs the best and Chloe has fallen in love
with one of the Parrots! She's not sure which one it is but one of them
keeps talking to her! My favourites have to be the Otters, you can even
see them swimming underwater! Trevor's gone off into the 'Hawk Walk',
where all the birds of prey are, I'm going to have to drag him out in
a minute or he'll be in there all day!
Back inside there's information on how we can all help to save the rainforests
and as we go back into some more jungle we come across an 'Indian Village'
opposite some more beautiful Toucans. Sophie and Chloe are already pushing
through the double doors into the gift shop so we'd better catch up with
them before they decide to buy everything!
Chloe finally decided on a 'Hanging Monkey' and Sophie an Anteater; it
took them ages to choose, there was so much choice! Trevor's going to
take them both over to the playground now while I take a look in the Trading
Post.
I've found a lovely vase for Trevor's mum's birthday and a fascinating
Inca Mask for our front room. I'll just put them in the car and find out
how the 'Adventurer's' are doing in the 'Jurassic Adventure Land'.
I take Sophie into the under 5's 'Dino Babes' while Trevor takes Chloe
in to the larger playground. Sophie soon gets tired, (it might have something
to do with the toy Anteater that she refuses to put down!), so we go and
sit on the benches and watch Chloe.
2pm already and time for the 'Meet the Animals' talk, we can see the staff
bringing out a Macaw as we walk back across from the play areas.
They've also brought out a Meerkat and a snake and start telling us all
about them. The Macaw keeps interrupting them with shouts and whistles
and only shuts up when they give him a Brazil nut to play with!
The
Meerkat is really cute he keeps standing up on this back legs looking
around. The staff bring all of the animals up close to the barrier so
that we can all have a close look, we get close enough to the Meerkat
to get a whiff of him, pooh he smells a bit like a ferret only worse!
As the staff ask for any questions from us they also tell us about the
new projects that are planned and ongoing, new animals, enclosures and
conservation projects. There will certainly be lots of new things to see
by the time we come back again next year!
Trevor wants to stay for the next Falconry display at 3.30pm, so he's
going to take the girls around Amazon World again while I have a nice
sit down with a scone and a cup of tea in the café!
Well
we've certainly enjoyed our very full day at Amazon World. We were just
expecting a normal zoo but it's been fun and informative and the girls
have learnt so much! We've all seen animals we never even knew existed
and they all look so content and well looked after. The work they do here
for conservation is amazing and we're going to help by sponsoring an animal.
When we can decide on which one, that is! I hope you enjoy your visit
to Amazon World as much as we did!
